AROUND THE INTERNET: Pointless Google Searches 10/10/08

October 10, 2008 By: D.J. Kirkbride Category: Around the Internet

Ever just type something into Google with hopes that, you know, something wacky will come up for an AROUND THE INTERNET column? Maybe you have, but, unless you write for The Footnote, I doubt it. Even then, I mostly doubt it. I’m very doubtful. Anyway.

So, just going on instinct and just my weird, random brain, I typed in “laser fist,” ’cause, eff you, I’d like one. Read the rest of this entry →

RANT FARM: In the Army Now

October 09, 2008 By: Krystal Thompson Category: Rant Farm

Alright, let’s start off with my PC caveat first: I believe that the military serves a necessary purpose and that some people are born soldiers, and though it’s never a cake walk, some do better than others within that environment. I completely support our troops, and it makes me sad when people lose the message that, whether or not they agree with the war, our troops have to be out there fighting. Now, on to the rant! PURE LARD: Two Wheeled Adventures

October 08, 2008 By: D.J. Kirkbride Category: Pure Lard

Back when I was a lad of nine (give and take a few years), I was riding my totally sweet Huffy BMX bike around the neighborhood, making blue skid marks on the street on account of the blue tires. Everyone else was making black skid marks, but due to the blue tires on my sweet ride, mine were unique. Blue. Blunique. It was eventually totally awesome to me then (and now), but I remember that I didn’t like those blue tires when I first got the bike. They were “different,” and that didn’t jive with me. Later, after other mind blowing discoveries such as learning how to pop a wheelie and ride with no hands, I finally came to realize that the blue tires were totally sweet and that my bike was probably, like, the coolest bike around.

Knowledge is power.

SIGHT GAGS FOR RADIO: Benched

October 07, 2008 By: Adam P. Knave Category: Sight Gags for Radio

I had to go back to prose recently. I know, I make it sound like a bad thing, but I’ve been writing script for a few months, pretty much non-stop and to go back to prose was a bit of a shock.

First of all, I think this is one of the longest stretches I’ve had not writing prose since I started writing to sell. It wasn’t something I thought about until I suddenly found myself back at it. Just … whoa, really? But it is also a totally different mindset than script. I am speaking of comic script and will be generalizing here, but let’s take a look…

REMOTELY CONTROLLED: Some TV Shows I’ve Named But Have Yet to Write or Create

October 06, 2008 By: D.J. Kirkbride Category: Remotely Controlled

In the largely forgotten days of yesterday, I was emailing SEAL YOUR FATE writer Jennifer Bosworth, and I very effectively argued a now completely forgotten point. This led me to call myself “The Arguist,” which I then deemed an excellent title for a television program. In agreement, Mrs. Bosworth said it sounded like a better title for a show than The Mentalist. This was my response to that bombshell:

Most things do.

In fact, here is a list of five wholly original show titles created off the top of my head that sound better than The MentalistRead the rest of this entry →
